Daman Itinerary
A practical 1-2 day Daman plan: the Rajpath drive, sunrise tower, Palung farms and forests.
This Daman itinerary turns the ridge's big-view potential into a relaxed plan. Because the Himalayan panorama is best at sunrise, the trip is built around an overnight stay, with the scenic Tribhuvan Rajpath drive as part of the fun. Below is a one-night core plan plus a second day for those who want more.
Day 1: Drive up and settle in
Leave Kathmandu in the morning or early afternoon and drive the Tribhuvan Rajpath southwest, stopping for photos in the terraced Palung valley vegetable farms. Reach the ridge by mid-afternoon, check into an east-facing room (see where to stay in Daman), and stretch your legs with a short walk to scout the view tower for the morning. Enjoy an early dal bhat dinner — nights are cold up here.
Day 2 morning: Sunrise at the view tower
Set off in the dark with a torch to be on the Daman view tower before first light. Watch the peaks ignite west to east — Dhaulagiri, Annapurna, Manaslu, Langtang, Gauri Shankar and distant Everest — using the mounted telescopes to pick out the far summits. Linger for the after-dawn light over the Palung valley.
Optional Day 2: Temple, forests and the road down
With more time, walk up to the Risheshwar Mahadev Temple through the forest, and in spring wander the rhododendron forests in bloom. Then drive back, or continue down to Hetauda and on to Chitwan to pair mountains with jungle.
Tips
- Time the trip with the best time to visit Daman for the clearest skies.
- Pack warm layers for the pre-dawn ridge.
- Build in extra driving time for the winding road.

Frequently asked questions
How many days do you need in Daman?+
One night is enough for the essentials: drive up in the afternoon, settle on the ridge, and climb the view tower for sunrise the next morning. Add a second day if you want to explore the Palung valley farms, the Risheshwar Mahadev temple and the rhododendron forests at a relaxed pace.
Can you do Daman as a day trip from Kathmandu?+
You can, but it is not ideal, since the best views are at dawn and the winding Tribhuvan Rajpath takes three to four hours each way. An overnight stay turns a rushed day trip into a relaxed visit that actually delivers the sunrise panorama.
What is the best one-day plan for Daman?+
If you only have one day, leave Kathmandu early, drive the Rajpath via the Palung valley, reach the ridge by afternoon, stay overnight, watch sunrise at the view tower, then explore the temple and forests before driving back. Treat it as an overnight rather than a same-day return.
