Tatopani Hot Springs (Rasuwa)
A natural hot spring on the Tamang Heritage Trail near Syabrubesi, amid Tamang villages.
Tatopani — literally "hot water" — is a natural hot spring on the Tamang Heritage Trail, in the hills northwest of Syabrubesi in Rasuwa. After a day walking between Tamang villages, trekkers soak in its simple stone pools to ease aching legs, with the warm, mineral-rich water set against terraced slopes and distant Langtang and Ganesh Himal peaks. It is one of the gentle pleasures that make the Tamang loop so popular.
Why it matters
Hot springs hold real cultural value in Nepal, often regarded as healing and sacred, and Tatopani is the highlight soak of the Langtang region's cultural trek. The setting is rustic and natural rather than a built spa, which is much of its charm — you bathe in the open amid the mountains, sharing the water with local Tamang villagers and fellow walkers. After long days of climbing between stone hamlets, the warm mineral water is a genuine reward, and the stop has become one of the defining moments of the Tamang Heritage Trail.
The springs sit amid terraced fields and forest, with the snow peaks of Langtang Lirung and the Ganesh Himal rising beyond on clear days. The water emerges naturally warm from the hillside and is channelled into simple bathing pools, so there is no schedule or ticket booth — just the spring, the village and the mountains.
How to visit
Tatopani sits on the Tamang Heritage Trail from Syabrubesi, reached on foot a day or so out from the Syabrubesi bazaar roadhead, typically via the stone village of Gatlang or on the way to the Nagthali viewpoint. Plan it into your trekking itinerary rather than as a quick visit.

Tatopani — Nepali for 'hot water' — is a small settlement with natural hot springs on the Tamang Heritage Trail, in the hills northwest of Syabrubesi in Rasuwa district. It is reached on foot as part of the trek, usually a day or so out from the Syabrubesi roadhead.
Can you bathe in the Tatopani hot springs?+
Yes. The springs feed simple stone pools where trekkers and locals soak to ease tired legs after a day's walking. Facilities are basic and natural rather than a developed spa, so bring your own towel, dress modestly and respect the local custom of the place.
Is Tatopani Rasuwa the same as Tatopani on the Annapurna Circuit?+
No. Several places in Nepal are called Tatopani because the name simply means hot springs. This one is in Rasuwa on the Tamang Heritage Trail; another well-known Tatopani lies on the lower Annapurna Circuit in the Kali Gandaki valley. They are entirely separate places.
Do you need to trek to reach Tatopani?+
Generally yes. Tatopani sits on the Tamang Heritage loop and is reached on foot from Syabrubesi, often via Gatlang or on the way to Nagthali. It is one of the rewards of the trek rather than a roadside stop, though road access in the area has been improving.
