The Best Time to Visit Baglung
Autumn and spring bring clear Dhaulagiri views and dry trails — a season-by-season guide to visiting Baglung.
The best time to visit Baglung is autumn (October to December) and spring (February to April), when dry, clear weather brings the sharpest Dhaulagiri and Kaligandaki valley views and the most comfortable conditions for hiking and travel. Baglung's mild hill climate, at around 1,000 metres, makes it pleasant for much of the year, but the mountain panoramas and dry trails are most reliable outside the summer monsoon.
Autumn (October to December)
The prime season. Skies clear after the monsoon, the air is crisp, and hilltop viewpoints such as Panchakot deliver their best Dhaulagiri views. Autumn also brings Dashain, when the Baglung Kalika temple is at its most vivid — atmospheric but busy, so book ahead.
Spring (February to April)
A second sweet spot, with warming days, generally clear mornings and hillsides coming into bloom. Excellent for short hikes, paragliding and ridge walks, and the start of the season for journeys west toward Dhorpatan.
Summer monsoon (June to September)
Wet, cloudy and humid. The hills turn lush and the Kaligandaki runs full, but views are often hidden and hill roads west get slow and slippery — the least suitable time for views and hiking.
Winter (December to February)
Cool and quiet in town, with cold nights but rarely freezing days and often very clear mountain air. A fine, low-key time for the temple and valley views, though high routes toward Dhorpatan can be cold and snowbound.

Frequently asked questions
When is the best time to visit Baglung?+
October to December and February to April are the best months, with dry, clear weather, comfortable temperatures and the best Dhaulagiri and Kaligandaki valley views from hilltop viewpoints. These seasons also suit short hikes, paragliding and the journey west toward Dhorpatan.
What is the weather like in Baglung?+
Baglung sits at around 1,000 metres in the western hills, so it has a mild hill climate — warm days and cool nights in the dry seasons, hotter and humid before the monsoon, and wet, cloudy weather from roughly June to September. Winters are cool but rarely freezing in town.
Is Dashain a good time to visit Baglung?+
Dashain in autumn is a special, vivid time at the Baglung Kalika Bhagwati Temple, with large pilgrim crowds and rituals. It is atmospheric but busy, and transport and rooms can be in high demand, so book ahead and expect a livelier, more crowded town.
Can you visit Baglung during the monsoon?+
You can, but the summer monsoon brings cloud, rain and slippery trails, obscuring the mountain views and making hill roads west toward Dhorpatan slow and difficult. The river gorge is at its fullest and the hills lush, but it is the least suitable season for views and hiking.
