How to Get to Baglung

How to reach Baglung — bus or car from Pokhara via Beni, with times, the Jomsom road link and practical tips.

Baglung is reached overland from Pokhara, around three to four hours west along the highway via Kushma and toward Beni. Most travellers arrive by bus or private vehicle; the road is paved for most of the way and climbs scenically through the hills above the Kaligandaki. There are no reliable scheduled flights to town, so the journey is by road.

From Pokhara

The standard approach is from Pokhara, roughly three to four hours by car or jeep (longer by local bus). The route runs west via Naudanda and Kushma — home to the famous suspension bridges — before reaching Baglung above the Kaligandaki. Pokhara International Airport is the practical air gateway, with onward road transport from there.

On the road to Mustang and Dhorpatan

Baglung sits on the overland route toward Beni, Jomsom and Muktinath, so it slots neatly into an Annapurna-region or Mustang trip up the Kaligandaki. Westward, it is also the road-head for the Dhorpatan Hunting Reserve and the Guerrilla Trek, via the bazaars of Galkot and Burtibang.

Buses and private vehicles

Regular buses run from Pokhara to Baglung, and private cars or jeeps are faster and more flexible for the hill roads and side trips down to the Kaligandaki bridges. Roads west of Baglung get rougher and slower, especially in the monsoon.

Getting around once you arrive

Baglung's bazaar is compact and easy on foot — the Kalika temple and shops are walkable, and short hikes start from town. For longer excursions and the route west, arrange a local jeep. Plan onward travel with our guide to getting around Nepal, and sort a base with where to stay in Baglung.
