Briddim Homestay
A Tamang village near Langtang with community homestays on the Tamang Heritage Trail.
Briddim is a Tamang village in Rasuwa district near the gateway to Langtang, beloved for its community homestays and its strong Tamang Buddhist culture. Set at around 2,200 metres on a green hillside above Syabrubesi, the village is a circle of traditional flat-roofed stone houses, prayer flags and a small monastery, with forested ridges and snow peaks rising beyond. A night here is one of the most rewarding cultural stops in the whole Langtang region.
On the Tamang Heritage Trail
Briddim is a highlight of the Tamang Heritage Trail, the cultural circuit through the Tamang villages of Rasuwa, and a natural pairing with the wider Langtang region treks. Many trekkers use the village as an early, gentle stop to acclimatise and soak up village life before climbing higher. Its community homestay scheme, run through a village committee, rotates guests between households so that the benefits of tourism are shared — the same model that powers the community homestay villages of Nepal.
Tamang culture and the homestay
The Tamang are a Buddhist people of the central hills, and Briddim wears its faith openly: a hillside monastery, chortens, mani walls and fluttering prayer flags. Staying in a Tamang home means simple, clean rooms, butter tea, hearty Tamang and Nepali dishes, and the chance to share in daily routines. Evenings may bring a cultural programme of Tamang song and the Tamang Selo drum-and-dance, performed by the community itself.
Things to do around the village
Beyond the homestay, you can walk to the monastery above the village, visit nearby cheese-making and farming households, and follow short forest trails with views toward the Langtang peaks and across to the Ganesh Himal range. The village makes an excellent acclimatisation base, and the surrounding hills offer easy day walks for those not continuing into the high mountains.
Getting there and planning
Briddim is reached on foot from Syabrubesi, the roadhead for Langtang, in a walk of a few hours; Syabrubesi connects to Kathmandu by a long mountain road via Dhunche. Arrange your stay through the village homestay committee or a trekking operator, and bring cash and warm layers for cool mountain nights. Travel respectfully — Briddim is a flagship of responsible travel in Nepal — and consider pairing it with the rebuilt Gurung-and-others' village of Barpak in Gorkha for a broader sense of Nepal's hill communities.
