Gosaikunda with the Langtang Valley Trek
Link the Langtang Valley with the sacred Gosaikunda lakes on one trek from Syabrubesi.
The combined Langtang Valley and Gosaikunda trek links the two great highlights of the Langtang region in a single trip: the glacier-fringed valley beneath Langtang Lirung, and the cluster of sacred high lakes at Gosaikunda. It is the most complete way to see the region, climbing first up one of Nepal's most beautiful valleys, then over to the holy lakes.
The route
Most itineraries start at Syabrubesi and walk up the Langtang Valley to Kyanjin Gompa, with side climbs to Kyanjin Ri or Tserko Ri for big mountain views. You then descend, traverse to Thulo Syabru or Dhunche, and climb via Sing Gompa (Chandanbari) to the Gosaikunda lake basin. From the lakes you can return to Dhunche or continue over the Lauribina La pass on the Gosaikunda to Helambu trek for a longer loop. For the family of routes in the area, see our national guide to Langtang region treks.
Length and difficulty
Allow about ten to fourteen days from Kathmandu, including the drives. It is moderately strenuous rather than technical, but you reach high ground in both sections, so steady acclimatisation across the whole trip is key — read our altitude sickness in Nepal guide. Build in rest-and-explore days at Kyanjin Gompa and at the lakes.
Why combine them
- You see two contrasting landscapes — a deep glacial valley and a high sacred basin — in one journey.
- The valley section helps you acclimatise before the high lakes.
- It makes the long drive in and out of Rasuwa go further; plan it with how to get to Gosaikunda.
The combined trek is a flagship of the wider Langtang National Park. Plan the timing with the best time to visit Gosaikunda and the rest of your trip from the Gosaikunda travel guide.
